This Certificate provides students with a 15 week programme of study in academic skills. These focus on introducing students to the requirements of academic study at a tertiary level. It aims to produce graduates who are capable of undertaking academic studies in the field of their choice.

The key skills students learn will include finding, assessing and analysing information, referencing, working in groups, study skills such as note-taking, exam preparation, basic mathematical skills are introduced and practiced, students become familiar with use of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software along with how to use the internet to source information and to communicate effectively.

Entry to this programme is open, provided applicants meet requirements in speaking, listening, reading and writing as assessed at an interview.

Students must be 16 years of age or older when they enrol and must have left Secondary School at least 6 months prior to applying for the programme.

Applicants whose first language is not English require a minimum IELTS score of 5.0, or equivalent score in an NZQA approved English Language Proficiency Test.
