What you study
Graduate with the practical skillset and technical knowledge required to work in palliative and aged care, rehabilitation, health promotion and primary health care. Subjects you will cover include:
- Primary healthcare
- Professional practice and legislation
- Research for healthcare practice
- Rehabilitation
- Geriatric care
- Palliative care
Gain real-world experience that gets you job-ready – at the end of your studies you will undertake 160 hours of work placement at an aged care facility or similar working environment. Upon graduation you will be able to work with a minimum pay of $28.25 an hour according to the New Zealand Government’s pay parity agreement (starting from 1 July 2023).

Entry requirements
- Minimum of a Level 5 qualification or above
- A compulsory criminal record/Police check
- Recommended minimum of Step 4 Literacy and Step 5 Numeracy on the Adult Learning Progressions or equivalent
- An interview and a short statement of intent on why the learner wishes to pursue a Healthcare qualification.
- This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor.
- A minimum of a Level 5 Diploma in Health or a related field, along with one year of work experience, or a Level 6 Diploma or higher in any discipline
- IELTS academic score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or NZCEL (Academic) Level 4 or equivalent
- An interview and a short statement of intent on why the learner wishes to pursue a Healthcare qualification.
