NZSE celebrates the ever-evolving technology landscape with Tech Day

Date

23/05/2024

Venue

NZSE Auckland CBD Campus

To celebrate TechWeek 2024, NZSE College proudly presented its own day of celebration on 23 May, with the theme of ‘Celebrating Diversity, Cultivating Talent’. The day included a lively lineup of three industry guest speaker sessions, and project presentations from our talented Software Development and Data Analytics students.

Why is TechWeek is an important date in Aotearoa’s calendar? “TechWeek brings together industry professionals, educators, and students to celebrate and explore the latest advancements in technology”, says Karla Malihan, Head of NZSE’s School of Tech. “It fosters collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing, contributing to the growth and development of the tech sector in New Zealand.”

“By showcasing cutting-edge technologies, sharing success stories, and providing a platform for discussions, TechWeek plays a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of tech talent and driving the conversation around the impact of technology on society and the economy.”
NZSE hosted three esteemed guest speakers, who provided valuable insights into their personal career journeys, and the qualifications that ensure success in the tech landscape. We welcomed Kerry Kingi, Technical Consultant CE at DXC Technology (and a former NZSE Level 5 graduate!); Dr. Louis Boamponsem, Air Quality Scientist at Auckland Council; and Dr. Vipula Dissanayake, AI Engineer.

“The engaging presentations and interactive Q&A sessions allowed students to connect with industry professionals and gain a deeper understanding of the technology field. The positive reception was evident through the active participation and enthusiasm of the students during the sessions!”

Next up in the day were two NZSE students who presented completed projects from their programmes. Euiseok Jong shared his developed mobile app, and Anju Peter presented his work on machine learning. It was incredible to see such innovative and inspired work from these two dedicated students.
The theme of NZSE’s Tech Day was Celebrating Diversity, Cultivating Talent. So, how does NZSE’s School of Tech embody this on a day-to-today basis? “Every day, we foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We encourage students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their interests in technology by offering programmes and resources tailored to their needs and aspirations. By promoting hands-on learning, real-world applications, and industry partnerships, NZSE cultivates talent and prepares students for successful careers in the tech sector.

“NZSE’s emphasis on diversity and talent cultivation is reflected in the school’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in education.”
