Obtain significant knowledge of healthcare and be equipped with the practical tools you’ll need to thrive as a healthcare worker in the aged care sector. While learning how to meet the holistic needs of patients, you’ll be led by our experienced, nurturing team of tutors in a caring learning environment.

What you study
Understand the role of an aged care professional while developing essential skills and in-depth knowledge for the real-world. You’ll be ready to enhance the general wellbeing of people, whanau, and communities with a focus on the elderly population and cultural sensitivity. During your studies, you will learn:
- Palliative care
- Operating equipment
- Safety procedures
- Hauroa and other cultural aspects of health and wellbeing
- Human anatomy and physiology
- Professional and ethical behaviour
At the end of your studies you will undertake 100 hours of work placement at an aged care facility or similar working environment. Upon graduation you will be able to work with a minimum pay of $26.94 an hour according to the New Zealand Government’s pay parity agreement (starting from 1 July 2023).

Entry requirements
- Be 16 years of age or older
- A compulsory criminal record/Police check
- Recommended to have completed NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2).
- Recommended minimum of Step 4 Literacy and Step 5 Numeracy on the Adult Learning Progressions or equivalent
- An interview and a short statement of intent on why the learner wishes to pursue a Healthcare qualification.
- This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor.
- Be 16 years of age or older

- IELTS academic score of 5.0 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent
