STAR and Gateway Programmes
Our STAR and Gateway courses are aimed to meet the needs of New Zealand’s youth in an environment that is both challenging and rewarding.
With NZSE’s programmes in ATC (Active Training Core), Tech, Health, and Early Childhood Education, students gain pathway opportunities into top New Zealand Universities, work placement, and employment – setting you up for success.
Skill up through STAR and Gateway
A Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource (STAR) gives secondary school students an opportunity to skill up for the future with specific career or study at tertiary level. Students participate in short-term courses or ‘taster courses’ for a few days at a time, or one day per week for several weeks; or long-term courses leading into Gateway.
Gateway courses are long term programmes which lead to industry unit standard qualifications. Gateway courses are tailored for secondary school students and are structured around work-based learning, allowing them to learn and work while still at school and experience what they will do in the workplace.

Our STAR and Gateway Programmes
Te Kura Whakahōia (ATC)
ATC Military Prep
ATC Military Prep uses military-style training and techniques to prepare students for pathways into the workforce, possible careers in the New Zealand Defense Force, New Zealand Police, Fire & Emergency Services, NZ Customs or other related services. It can also help you get the credits needed to advance into further study or university. Each year new students flourish in the atmosphere of a military-styled education system, achieving academic, physical, and vocational heights they never thought were possible.
Our Digital Tech and Information Technology programmes give students an introduction into the ever-growing tech industry. Students will have the opportunity to interact with real tech experts and benefit from their experience and insights. We promote a hands-on, collaborative approach to learning, always tying back to the challenges and needs of the real world from an IT/Digital Tech perspective.
Our Healthcare courses give students a first hand look into what it takes to become a skilled, sought-after healthcare worker in the New Zealand healthcare industry. Students will be given the opportunity to develop the real-world skills used in a health and wellbeing setting.
