Programme overview
If your goal is to build basic learning and employability skills, then this foundation skills course will provide you with the learning and practice that will lead to further study opportunities and employability skills in entry level roles where you will work under general supervision. Learning will take place during tutor directed sessions and activities. Further tasks, and assessments, are completed on our Learning Management System, Canvas LMS. You will be supported by your tutor and the Learner Success Support Team to do your best in this foundation programme.

What you study
During this programme you will learn all about Hauora (well-being) and develop personalised pathways for your future education, career, and personal development. The Uniformed Services Pathway is aimed at those who want to gain knowledge of civil defence in emergency, leadership skills, survival techniques, basic military skills and etiquette as applicable to a variety of uniformed services. You will also work collaboratively towards planning, scoping and implementing a community project.
Career opportunities
- Graduates will also be able to pathway into employment and work under general supervision in entry-level roles in a variety of fields or they can pursue further education to broaden their skills and knowledge in Level 3 qualifications.
Further study options
- This programme may lead to higher level study in a qualification such as:
- New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 3)
- New Zealand Certificate in Security (Level 3)
- NZ Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Exercise [Multisector] (Level 3) or other studies at Level 3 and above
- New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3)
Entry requirements
- Open to students who are 16 years of age or older
- Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake the Programme which is taught and assessed in English.
- This programme is not available for international students.
