Programme overview
The aim of this flexible-learning programme is to equip security professionals with the skills, knowledge and attributes required for promoting a safe and secure environment. Learners will finish their certification with knowledge of NZ legislation relevant to the security industry, an understanding of confidentiality, personal safety, situational awareness, and risk assessment.
Learnings can be applied immediately within the workplace. Led by assessors with both academic and security backgrounds, the programme supports employees throughout their learning journey, addressing key security challenges, such as security patrolling, property protection, and retail loss prevention. Learners will also develop the skills needed to manage risks effectively.

Entry requirements
- Learners must have a National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1 for Literacy and Numeracy, or equivalent AND
- Current employment in a relevant role in the Security sector in the Greater Auckland area, evidenced by a written and signed authorisation/verification letter from the employer confirming they will support the enrolment of this learner to this programme. The suitability of this workplace and role will be confirmed by NZSE, AND
- Sufficient competence in the English language to undertake the programme which is taught and assessed in English.
- International student visa holder applicants are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) General or Academic score of 5.0, with no band score lower than 5.0; or equivalent. The score must have been achieved in one test taken in the preceding two years. This is subject to NZQA Rule 22.
- Applicants must hold relevant work rights to work and study in New Zealand For (b) work-based: Pathway to Work, applicants are also required to:
- Ensure they have not been enrolled in TEC-funded work-based learning for at least six months prior to studying for the same (or a similar) qualification AND
- Ensure they have not completed 75 percent of the same programme in the last three years AND
- Provide a written and signed attestation that verifies the learner’s intent to complete the remaining modules on this programme once working in the Security sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
