NZSE College is proud to announce another new NZQA-approved programme open for delivery: The New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 5). Over 36 weeks, learners will gain the knowledge and practical skills to support young people across Aotearoa.
At the heart of youth work are mana-enhancing relationships that empower taiohi to recognise their strengths, find their voice, and shape their futures. Youth workers play a vital role in communities across New Zealand, and the impact they have on the wellbeing and development of young people cannot be overstated.
Head of School of Education Stephen Kendall-Jones says he has seen the value of youth workers first-hand, inspiring his enthusiasm for the creation of the programme. “As a former school principal, the impact youth workers had on at-risk children in my schools was immense. I am proud that NZSE College is the only provider of this qualification in the country, and that we are transforming lives through our new programme.”
This online programme has been carefully developed to reflect best practice in the sector. It integrates Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Mana Taiohi framework, and the Code of Ethics for Youth Work, ensuring graduates are equipped to engage with young people from marginalised communities with integrity and confidence. It also includes 300 hours of practicum in a relevant workplace, providing learners with essential practical learning opportunities.
NZSE College is committed to growing the next generation of youth workers who will stand up for New Zealand’s youth and make a difference in their communities.
We cannot wait to welcome our first cohort next month — applications are now open!
