Feroze Ashraff predominantly teaches the Diploma in Applied Network and Cloud Technology (Level 7), which focuses on advanced networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, covering technologies such as such as Microsoft Servers, the Azure Cloud platform and Network & Infrastructure security. Feroze’s extensive education, experience, and passion for technology informs his teaching every day – which is why he has a track record of producing successful graduates in their varied and unique tech fields. What is your background in technology?
“I have a strong foundation in technology, beginning with my Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics and Computing from Nottingham Trent University. I further specialised in cybersecurity with a Master’s in Information Systems Security from Charles Sturt University. Before migrating to New Zealand, I gained extensive, hands-on experience as an IT Technical Consultant and Trainer in Malaysia, where I worked with clients such as Western Digital, Philips, Toshiba, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“In addition to my academic qualifications, I hold several industry-recognised certifications that underscore my expertise in various areas of IT and cybersecurity. These include around 15 certifications from Microsoft, 9 certifications from CompTIA, and specialised certifications such as the CCNA CyberOps from Cisco, the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), and the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) certificate.
Tell us about the value of a career in technology.
“The tech industry is constantly evolving, making it one of the most dynamic and exciting fields to work in. It provides endless possibilities for innovation and problem-solving – and for making a tangible impact on the world. Additionally, the demand for tech professionals is consistently high, ensuring strong job security and excellent career growth potential. Technology also offers the flexibility to work in various sectors, from healthcare to finance, which means that tech skills are versatile and in demand globally.
“A career in cybersecurity is particularly rewarding and crucial in today’s digital age. With cyber threats becoming more sophisticated and widespread, there is a growing need for skilled professionals who can protect sensitive data and maintain the integrity of information systems. It’s a field that requires continuous learning and adaptation, making it intellectually stimulating and highly respected. Moreover, cybersecurity professionals are in high demand, often commanding competitive salaries and benefiting from strong job security!”
What do you like most about teaching?
“The opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of tech professionals. Watching students grasp complex concepts and develop practical skills is incredibly rewarding. I also appreciate the dynamic nature of teaching, where I continuously learn from my students and stay updated with the latest industry trends to provide the most relevant and impactful education.”
What kind of environment do you foster in your classroom?
“In my classroom, I strive to create an inclusive, supportive, and interactive learning environment. I believe that every student brings unique perspectives and strengths, so I encourage open communication and collaboration. I also emphasise practical, hands-on learning, ensuring that students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. By fostering a positive and engaging atmosphere, I aim to inspire curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning.”
How does your teaching prepare students for work outside of graduation?
“My approach is heavily focused on preparing students for real-world challenges. I incorporate practical labs, case studies, and project-based learning into my curriculum, allowing students to work on tasks that mirror industry scenarios. I also emphasise the importance of IT professional certifications, from vendors such as Microsoft and CompTIA, which are highly valued by employers. By the time students graduate, they not only have the theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills and industry-recognised credentials to excel in their careers.”
What kind of careers do your graduates go into?
“Graduates from my courses typically pursue careers in various IT roles, such as Customer Support Analyst, Desktop Analyst, Network Engineers/Admins, Cloud Engineers/Admins, Cybersecurity Analysts, Systems Administrators, and IT Consultants. Some also move into specialised roles like Ethical Hackers, Penetration Testers, and Cloud Security Specialists. The skills and certifications they acquire during their studies enable them to work in diverse industries, from corporate IT departments to government agencies and tech startups.”
