What you study
The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare provides learners with a non-health degree, health-related qualification, or relevant experience, a direct pathway into postgraduate study. This bridging programme has been designed to ensure learners can develop educational, professional and vocational knowledge in healthcare in just one semester. Learners will develop the critical understanding needed to enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare, where they can specialise in mental health, community health, or addiction. Delivered blended and online [onshore] this programme introduces key concepts in healthcare systems, ethical practice, and culturally responsive approaches to improve health outcomes for diverse communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Upon completion of this programme, graduates will be able to:
- Critically evaluate advanced concepts, frameworks, policies, and culturally responsive strategies in mental health, community health, and addiction services to promote holistic, equitable, and socially just health outcomes for diverse populations in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Critically evaluate legal standards, ethical approaches, and culturally reflective practices of mental health, community health and addiction challenges, for the enhancement of hauora, harm reduction, and equitable health outcomes for indigenous and vulnerable communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Critically analyse factors contributing to prevalent mental health, community health and addiction challenges in Aotearoa New Zealand, evaluating culturally responsive strategies to recommend theory-informed interventions that promote equitable outcomes and social justice for vulnerable individuals, whānau, and communities.

Entry requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline OR
- Equivalent educational experience in health OR
- Equivalent advanced evidence-based practical experience in a patient-facing role in the health industry (min. two years in the last five years)
English Language Requirements:
- International students must meet one of the following English language proficiency level requirements to enrol in the programme: An IELTS overall band score of 6.0, PTE test score of 50, or completion of the NZCEL level 4 programme
