This practical 18-week New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2) equips learners with the skills and confidence to begin a career in Aotearoa’s fast-growing hospitality industry. Alongside strengthening core literacy, numeracy and communication abilities, students are introduced to the key practices for attentive service — from preparing food and understanding menus to front-of-house operations. Guided by friendly, experienced tutors, learners gain the crucial skills to easily transition from study into roles across restaurants, bars, hotels and event spaces. With an emphasis on real-world experiences, the programme sets graduates up to step confidently into the vibrant world of hospitality.
CFS2001 – Rangatira Hauora (Wellbeing)

Define Rangatira hauora (holistic wellbeing) through the connections to physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. Apply personal strategies to enhance hauora that will empower learners to promote and maintain wellbeing in various aspects of their life including preparation for a professional career in the hospitality industry.

CFS2002 – Future Pathways

Reflect on internal and external factors that influence rangatiratanga and create SMART goals related to the development of personalised pathways for future education, career and personal development within the service and hospitality industry.

CFS2007 – Community Project

Learners will work collaboratively to plan and implement a fundraising project within a hospitality context, to benefit a community. Develop strategies to work in a team and to support your own rangatiratanga through communication, personal awareness and self-development that will further support future project outcomes.

CFS2008 – Rangatiratanga and Collaboration Skills

Learners will work collaboratively in a team to develop appropriate visual and/or audio resources that strengthen their rangatiratanga and that can be used within a hospitality environment. Online distribution channels to upload resources and materials will be explored alongside reflections of personal contribution to the team activity and self-management/improvement strategies for application of learning within future situations.

This programme is only available for domestic students.
