The Postgraduate Certificate in Data Analytics (Level 8) equips learners to turn complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive smarter decisions across business, finance, marketing, and beyond. Blending advanced theory with practical application, it develops expertise in data management, AI-driven solutions, and ethical data practices. Graduates will be able to interpret sophisticated datasets, support innovation, and lead evidence-based decision-making across global corporations, SMEs, NGOs, and Māori and Pacific enterprises — or progress into higher-level study. Through learning in AI applications, data privacy and sovereignty, and real-world data challenges, learners gain practical, industry-ready skills for roles in today’s data-driven workplaces.

A New Zealand Level 7 Bachelor’s degree, or a recognised equivalent qualification, in a relevant field of study.
- International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency for admission to this programme. Evidence must meet one of the following minimum standards:
- IELTS (Academic): Overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0, OR
- New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL): Level 5 (Academic endorsement), OR

All English language test results must be valid and obtained within the period recognised by NZQA and Immigration New Zealand.
Digital device requirements:
Learners are required to have a suitable device (BYOD) for their study. Learners are required to have
access to a reliable internet connection and a data usage plan that will allow them to sign into the
NZSE’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, upload and download files including video.
The delivery of this programme will be through Microsoft Teams and NZSE’s Canvas LMS. Hence, the
following device requirements apply:

A current and updated Internet/Online Security solution needs to be used at all times.
Not supported: Other devices will not meet the requirements for this programme’s delivery e.g., macOS
devices, Windows devices with ARM CPUs (like Qualcomm), smart phones, tablets, etc.
Only those learners enrolled as ‘online’ learners will be able to use a desktop computer. Blended
learners will be required to bring their own high-end laptop to campus
- Middle management level in large businesses or corporations, NGOs and government departments.
- Management of small business enterprises encompassing the data analytics skills obtained.
- Middle management level in consultancy firms or organisations that provide whole-of organisations insights that require the integration of skills in data analytics.
- Entrepreneur; founder/ director of start-ups; and self-employment.
- Examples of roles [in demand in Aotearoa New Zealand]: Analyst Programmer, Business Analyst, Developer Programmer, ICT Consultant, Software and Applications Programmers, Software Engineer, and Software Tester.
Students who complete this Post Graduate Certificate can pathway seemlessly into Semester 2 of NZSE’s Master of Data Analytics, completing the final two semesters of the MDA. International students will still be entitled to a three-year, post-study work visa.

Graduates will be able to demonstrate advanced theoretical knowledge and apply advanced practical skills for the specialist field of data analytics.
