The New Zealand School of Education, trading as New Zealand Skills and Education College (NZSE College), has opened its purpose-built waahi ako in Manukau, enabling it to deliver its education programmes in a more flexible, smart and supported environment for students and staff.
The waahi ako was blessed on July 20 before its official opening at 20A Amersham Way.
Chief Executive Wendy Liao says it is a major relocation for the well-established institute and one all staff have been looking forward to. “Looking back, the Covid lockdowns were particularly hard on many PTE’s (Private Tertiary Education providers) seeing several of them shrink or close. However, NZSE weathered the pandemic better than many and grew its South Auckland roll.”
Ms Liao says its success can be put down to the incredibly dedicated kaiako and the student support services delivered during that time. “We recognised that NZSE needed to make sure that it was delivering learning experiences in great environments and so this new location was purposefully chosen to deliver on that front.”

The purpose-built and fully refurbished site encompasses two independent learning locations, with a large, accessible ground-level and two substantial floors located in the main tower offering amazing views of the Manukau area.

She says the new waahi ako spaces are based around flexible learning and offer students areas where they can be both supported, engaged, and comfortable.

Founder of New Zealand Skills and Education Group (NZSEG) Brijesh Sethi was also aware of the student benefits. “We have made a conscious plan for enabling our students and kaiako to have spaces that are fit-for-purpose and central to their learning and teaching needs. This new waahi ako is an incredibly positive next step for us as a School.”

The new whare offers large learning spaces that can be used independently or opened up to cater for large groups. The technology available to students, staff and teachers is first class with gesture-enabled projectors and high-speed fibre Wi-Fi across the site.
The new waahi ako was officially opened and blessed by our local Iwi Kaumātua Wiremu from Te Whanau o Raukura o Tainui who supported us in our kaupapa and purpose on Tuesday July 20.
