Celebrating the achievements of NZSE College’s class of 2026

On Friday 9 October, hundreds of NZSE College graduates gathered at the International Convention Centre in Auckland City to celebrate the culmination of their studies.

Marking 20 years of delivering education to international learners, the day was colourful and uplifting, with graduates dressed in their finest and carrying an infectious sense of excitement. Across three sessions, each cohort had its moment in the spotlight, including the very first graduates of NZSE College’s Bachelor of Business Information Management (Level 7).

The morning began with celebrating graduates from the Diploma in Community Healthcare and Support (Level 7). NZSEG Group CEO Wendy Liao kicked off the session, reflecting on her own academic journey. “Like many of you, I balanced work and study. It has its challenges, but you overcame everything that was thrown at you. I hope that when you embark on your next journey, you carry this spirit of commitment and innovation, to make a lasting, positive impact in your field.”

Guest speaker Stephen Grady, Principal of Matua Ngaru School, also congratulated the graduates on entering a profession dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of others. He described their work as “a noble calling, where they uplift the health, dignity, and wellbeing of our communities”.

While graduation day may look polished, Grady reminded the audience of the hard mahi behind each qualification. Graduates had navigated practical placements, assignments, family responsibilities, and life’s unexpected complexities to reach this moment, making their achievements all the more significant.

“You didn’t just pass, you have developed resilience and knowledge,” he said.

A milestone for two new programmes

The second session celebrated learners from early childhood education, data analytics, and healthcare, alongside the very first graduates of the Bachelor of Business Information Management (Level 7) and the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electronic Engineering) (Level 6).

For academic staff, seeing the inaugural cohorts cross the stage was a particularly proud moment. Both programmes were carefully developed and represented an exciting direction for NZSE College’s academic portfolio.

We were delighted to hear from bachelor alum Shekinah Herewini, who shared the whakataukī kua ara te rā, kua oho te āo mārama — the sun has risen, and the enlightened world has awakened, signifying the fresh beginnings facing our graduates.

Nigel Grant, Head of Business Customer Experience and Coaching at ASB Bank, also took to the stage to share advice drawn from his extensive career experience in Aotearoa and overseas. He encouraged graduates to find a mentor who could ask “challenging questions, and to be a sound board”, while reminding them of the value of building a professional network as they progress in their careers.

Celebrating the people behind the achievement

The final session brought together graduates from business technologies, pharmacy, and mental health and disability programmes.

NZSE’s Ako Kāiarahi, Trish Ripi, opened the session with a mihimihi and karakia, acknowledging the loved ones of our graduates, including those no longer here to share in the celebration.

She encouraged graduates to look around at their fellow learners before sharing the whakataukī: He aha te mea nui o te ao? Māku e kī atu, he tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

“What is the most precious asset in the world? It is not gold, or jewels. It is people, it is people, it is people.”

As the final graduates crossed the stage to receive their certificates and recognition from academic staff, NZSEG Founder Brijesh Sethi brought the celebrations to a close with a heartfelt address.

“Thank you for being a permanent part of NZSEG. You are connected to us now. If you ever need anything, please approach us for guidance and mentorship,” said Sethi.

“Remember, extraordinary achievements begin with ordinary efforts, repeated every day with accountability, sincerity, and ownership. Do it from your heart every day.”

From improving health and wellbeing outcomes to shaping children’s lives through education, informing business decisions with data, and developing engineering solutions, our class of 2026 is ready to make valuable contributions to Aotearoa New Zealand.
